Fold has no account, no database and no cookies. One thing here can send your writing somewhere else, you have to press a button that says so, and this page is where it is written down.
The draft you type, the proof sheet, the fold measurement, the character counts, the formatting and the note on your opening line are all worked out in the browser. None of it is sent anywhere, none of it is written to storage, and closing the tab ends it.
Share proof puts the entire draft inside the link. Nothing is stored at our end - the text travels in the address itself - which also means anyone with the link can read the post, and that the link sits in browser history and in whatever it is pasted into. A warning says so before it is copied.
Three other first lines works offline: it moves sentences you already wrote to the front, using rules in the page. Underneath it is a second button that sends your draft to Anthropic’s API so a model can write three new openings. That is the only thing you type that ever leaves your browser, and it only happens when you press it.
We do not log it, store it or keep a record of it. It is handled under Anthropic’s commercial terms, which means it is not retained beyond serving the request and is not used to train anything. If you would rather it never left, do not press that button - everything else works without it.
The only thing recorded about the request is a count, kept against your IP address for an hour, so one visitor cannot run up a bill for everyone. The count is a number; it carries nothing you wrote.
Fold uses Google Analytics, configured to set no cookies at all (client_storage: "none", advertising features off). It counts five things: formatting applied, a copy taken, the device switched, a rewrite asked for, a link shared. Nothing you write is ever part of an event. Because it is cookieless we cannot tell a returning visitor from a new one, which is a trade made deliberately so the claim at the top of this page is true.
Your IP address reaches Google and Vercel as part of any request to any website, and is used for approximate location and for the rate limit above. We do not store it ourselves.
